The ratio was brutal by social media standards. Big-box news wire service Associated Press chose to frame its account of the heinous murder of a Georgia nursing student allegedly at the hands of an illegal alien as another tale of the dangers faced by female joggers. Shockingly, AP even referenced another infamous example of a young American woman murdered by an illegal to buttress its case.
“[Carol] Capps, 24, said the trails around Lake Herrick always seemed safe, a place where she could get away from traffic and go into the woods for some mental clarity,” the Associated Press account stated. “But that sense of peace was shattered after authorities on [Feb. 22] found the body of Laken Hope Riley and arrested Athens resident Jose Antonio Ibarra, 26, on suspicion of murder. The victim and suspect did not know each other, and University of Georgia Police Chief Jeff Clark called the killing a crime of opportunity.”
‘A Place Has Been Taken Away From Me’
Nowhere in the article does AP acknowledge that Ibarra is an illegal alien. “The scariest thing about it is it could have been me or one of my friends,” Capps told AP. “It feels like a place has been taken away from me.”
Taken away by what?
“Riley’s death has once again put the spotlight on the dangers female runners face. Previously, the 2018 death of University of Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts while out jogging prompted an outpouring from other women who shared their tales of being harassed and followed,” AP continued in it’s February 24 piece..
Yes, the article ignored the fact that the suspect in Laken Riley’s murder and the killer of Mollie Tibbetts were both illegal immigrants. It also threw in the notion of toxic masculinity as a leading cause of the completely avoidable tragedy.
“Callie Rennison, a professor of criminal justice at the University of Colorado who studies violence against women, wishes there was more emphasis on teaching men not to assault women rather than telling women what they should or should not do,” the story continued.
An AP post on X promoting the article garnered more than 12 million views, with 1,600 likes and a whopping 7,400 comments. In social media parlance, that is known as “ratioing,” and it reveals the extent of the enormous negative public reaction to AP’s selective “journalism.”
Illegal Alien Media Watch?
The dominant media establishment’s attempt to spin the illegal alien catastrophe facing America under the Biden administration has been especially heavy-handed of late. As Liberty Nation noted in January, Yahoo Finance on Jan. 15 published a news article citing a “key reason inflation is cooling.” The magic cure? Massive immigration into the US.
“Though it’s a political hot potato, there’s no question about it,” Samantha LaDuc, a market analyst, told Yahoo Finance columnist Janna Herron. “Immigration absolutely has helped keep inflation from getting out of control and has brought it down.”
In October, Cox Enterprises-owned news site Axios published an “Axios Explains” piece by its “Axios Latino” “Justice and Race reporter” Russell Contreras on the “myth of a US-Mexico ‘open border.’”
Contreras wrote:
“As the Biden administration grapples with the soaring number of migrants and asylum-seekers at the US-Mexico border, conservative pundits and politicians have upped accusations that some Democrats support ‘open border’ policies.
“By using the term ‘open border,’ conservatives… are suggesting that anyone can get into the US without much hassle. But the reality is that the southern border is more fortified than it’s ever been.”
How has that aged?
On Feb. 2, Hearst Newspapers columnist Chris Tomlinson offered a unique take on why cracking down on the illegal alien calamity that has now reportedly taken the life of Laken Riley is a bad idea: It would ruin Super Bowl parties across America.
“If President Joe Biden sealed the border with Mexico, as many Republicans are demanding, their Super Bowl parties would be very sad, as a former president might say,” Tomlinson wrote. “No avocados or tomatoes for guacamole. No tequila or limes for margaritas. Americans would lose more than $3.45 billion worth of beer if the president closed the crossing at Eagle Pass [Texas] alone, trade data shows.”
Progressive establishment elites are so contemptuous of and unconnected to regular Americans that they genuinely believe people care more about guacamole and beer while watching sporting events on television than they do about the slaughter of their fellow neighbors and the lethal threat to themselves posed by massive illegal immigration.
