A New Mexico state judge has received widespread condemnation and even death threats for releasing five suspected Muslim extremists believed to be training children to conduct school shootings without even a requirement to post bail. Judge Sarah Backus is “a lifelong Democrat” whose ruling is perfectly in line with the party’s professed stance on Islam and terrorism.
Siraj Wahhaj, Hujrah Wahhaj, Lucas Morton, Jany Leveille, and Subhannah Wahhaj were charged with 11 counts of child abuse after the of 11 malnourished children in a compound in Amalia, New Mexico during the search for a missing boy.
Siraj Wahhaj is the son of Brooklyn imam Siraj Wahhaj Sr., who was an unindicted conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. A police raid on the compound on Aug. 3 also uncovered a cache of weapons and signs of a shooting range, PJ Media reports. Wahhaj is alleged to have been training the children to use the weapons so that they could carry out terror attacks, including school shootings.
Despite all this, Judge Backus refused to hold the defendants in custody, apparently agreeing with the defense attorney’s arguments that the state’s request was tied to prejudice based on the fact that the accused are “black and Muslim” rather than “white and Christian,” as the Taos News in New Mexico reports.
What Dems Believe
And why should this be a surprise?
Judge Backus is “a lifelong Democrat” and “[t]he Democratic Party of New Mexico appointed her in 2008 and 2010 to head the election protection efforts for the Democratic Party,” the Taos News reported in 2012.
Her ruling is completely consistent with Democrat views on Islam and terrorism and the party’s committed efforts to remaking America into a multicultural nation.
The party’s 2016 presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton, ably articulated the Democrat position on the subject when she famously said, “Islam is not our adversary. Muslims are peaceful and tolerant people, and have nothing whatsoever to do with terrorism.”
A 2017 Rasmussen poll shows that this party line is very much supported by Democratic voters. The poll found that 56 percent of Democrats surveyed believe Muslims are mistreated in the United States. In contrast, only 47 percent of these Dems believed “most Christians are mistreated in the Islamic world.”
Reflected in ruling
“These people have been charged. They have not been convicted,” Leo Romero, president emeritus at the University of New Mexico, told NBC News in explaining the judge’s ruling. “So you’re balancing individual rights versus safety of the community, and the judge is weighing that when she is determining the evidence presented by the prosecutor.”
In an atmosphere where the minority Muslim individual is seen as someone who has been “mistreated” by the white, Christian nation at large, it stands to reason that a Democrat judge would not side with the greater concern for the safety of the oppressor “community.”
Denying reality
One Democrat finds the party’s stubbornly obtuse stance on Islamic terror to be a source of intense frustration. Bryan Dean Wright is a former CIA officer who sees the Democrat position as a deliberate unwillingness “to acknowledge that Islamic ideology plays a role in what motivates terrorists to strike.”
In a 2016 op-ed in the Los Angeles Times, Wright decries Democrats burying their head in the sand on the magnitude of the Islamic terror threat. “Islam is a faith in crisis, and to deny that certain strains of the religion are contributing to global instability is to deny reality,” he declared.
When it comes to a choice between accepting reality or promoting an unbending narrative of minority oppression, Democrats will always go with the latter option.
