House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) recently indicated that subpoenas were coming for members of the Biden family and their associates in connection with alleged money-laundering and influence-peddling schemes. On Nov. 8, three subpoenas were issued for Joe Biden’s brother James, Hunter Biden, and one of Hunter’s business partners, Rob Walker. The committee also is seeking interviews with several other family members.
While Hunter has always been the central figure in the family’s international influence-peddling activities, James was recently drawn into the spotlight when it was revealed that, in 2018, he wrote a check for $200,000 to his brother, Joe Biden, on the same day that he received a payment of that exact amount from Americore Holdings, LLC, a failing healthcare company. According to Republicans on the committee, James told the cash-strapped Americore that the Biden name would help secure investment from the Middle East to reverse the company’s fortunes. Americore paid James Biden a total of $600,000 at a time when it was fighting to stave off bankruptcy.
Hunter Biden Ensnares Other Family Members
Earlier the committee had obtained financial records showing that Walker received $3 million from a Chinese company, State Energy HK Limited, and subsequently, in 2017, funneled more than $1 million to various members of the Biden family. Hallie Biden, the widow of Joe’s son, Beau, and also previously romantically involved with Hunter, received $25,000 from Walker. She is expected at some point to sit down with the committee for a transcribed interview.
James Biden’s wife, Sara, is also being sought for an interview. In 2017, Lion Hall Group, a consulting firm owned by James and Sara Biden, got a wire transfer of $150,000 from Hunter. That money was part of a much larger amount, $10 million, that came originally from CEFC, a Chinese energy company. After the $150,000 landed at Lion Hall Group, Sara took out $50,000 cash and deposited it in a personal account jointly owned by her and James. Some two weeks later, she wrote a personal check to Joe Biden in the amount of $40,000. In both cases, the payments from James and Sara to Joe were labeled as loan repayments.
The committee also is reportedly looking to speak with Hunter Biden’s wife, Melissa Cohen, and Elizabeth Secundy, Hallie’s sister.
“Unlike the many lies President Biden told the American people about his family’s business schemes, bank records don’t lie,” said Comer. “These records reveal how the Bidens sold Joe Biden around to the world to benefit the Biden family, including Joe Biden himself, to the detriment of U.S. interests.”
Democrats claim that Comer has documented evidence that the $200,000 James Biden gave his brother was indeed a repayment of a loan James received from Joe just two months earlier. In response to that claim, the committee chairman said there is “no document that shows there was a loan.”
The White House, congressional Democrats, and left-leaning media organizations still claim Comer has “no evidence” that the president was involved in or benefited from any family financial dealings. Yet even if he could prove that the $200,000 and the $40,000 he received from James were merely repayments of money he loaned James, Joe still gained financially from money paid to the family by various overseas and domestic companies. Without those payments to James and Hunter, Joe might never have gotten back the money he supposedly loaned out – so, in that respect, he did indeed benefit.
Comer told the Just the News, No Noise podcast that the committee is still “a long way from talking to Joe Biden.” It remains to be seen whether Hunter Biden, James Biden, and Rob Walker will defy the Oversight Committee subpoenas. Comer says he will work to hold them in contempt of Congress if they don’t show up.
